Hyderabad, Mar 4 : Fifteen lawyers from Telangana region were taken into custody along with members of some peoples' organisations when they tried to obstruct the convoy of three members of a Srikrishna Committee, appointed by the Centre to examine the issue of separate Telangana state, arrived here today.

 

They are on a two-day visit to the city for consultations with various stakeholders. The Chairman of the committee Justice B N Srikrishna will arrive later this evening.

The members of the committee, who arrived in the morning, included member-Secretary and former Home Secretary V K Duggal, Ranbir Singh, Abusaleh Shariff and Ravinder Kaur.

The members went to the Lake View Guest House from Shamshabad Airport as some peoples' organisations and lawyers from Telangana region tried to obstruct their convoy protesting against the delay in granting statehood to Telangana. 

According to police, 15 lawyers from Telangana region were taken into preventive custody at the Shamshabad Airport when they tried to obstruct the convoy of the committee members and raised slogans against it, soon after their arrival.

The police also arrested 15 protestors, including some lawyers, for raising slogans against the committee at the Guest House.
